What is Gall Bladder?
Gall Bladder is an organ that is connected to the liver where bile is stored. It helps the body in the digestion of the fats.
What are the pathologies associated with Gall Bladder?
Pathologies associated with the gallbladder include gall stones, gallbladder polyps or gallbladder tumours.
What are the symptoms of gallstones?
Gallstones usually cause no signs or symptoms. However if a stone lodges in a duct and causes a blockage, the resulting signs and symptoms may include sudden and rapidly intensifying pain in the upper right side of the abdomen that may or may not radiate to the back. There can be associated nausea or vomiting with or without fever. Gallstone pain may last several minutes to a few hours.
What are the treatment options?
They usually require surgery for removal of the gallbladder. Surgery involves either a conventional open surgical approach or the almost scarless minimal access technique by laparoscopic approach for removal of the gallbladder.
Open or Laparoscopic surgery: which is better?
Both approaches have their own pros and cons. However the laparoscopic surgery is better considering the shorter recovery times and the lesser pain associated after the procedure.
