What is Endoscopy?

Endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure used to examine the digestive tract of a person. The endoscope is a flexible tube with light and camera attached that can be used to view the digestive tract on a colour tv as well as take pictures for documentation.

What are the types of endoscopy?

Endoscopy may be either upper gastrointestinal (OGD) or lower gastrointestinal (Colonoscopy)

OGD scopy is done to examine the oesophagus, stomach and the first part of the small bowel.

Colonoscopy is done to examine the large bowel or the colon.
